چکیده

Optical devices are frequently being used in medical applications to image lesions and malignancies, assist with surgical procedures. The advances micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMSs) optics led the fabrication of flexible endoscopes as small a few millimeters diameter. design sub-millimeter sized optical fiber scanner is presented this paper. proposed consisted vibrating that carried laser light targeted imaging sample. desired vibratory motion scanning device was obtained using U-shaped electrothermal actuator where asymmetry actuator’s arm length caused free end actuating bend allowing bidirectional at its end. periodic square current wave passing through it timely manner. By matching signal frequency resonant cantilever placing appropriately relative actuator, distal allowed follow Lissajous scan. In scanners, scan pattern normally pair actuators. This paper presents providing 2D single actuator. Such technique can provide basis for development forward-viewing endoscopic catheters, whereas smallest endoscope has diameter 1.2 mm. field, such potential cavities body increasing diagnostic yield

Electrothermal MEMS fiber scanner for optical endomicroscopy.

We report a novel MEMS fiber scanner with an electrothermal silicon microactuator and a directly mounted optical fiber. The microactuator comprises double hot arm and cold arm structures with a linking bridge and an optical fiber is aligned along a silicon fiber groove. The unique feature induces separation of resonant scanning frequencies of a single optical fiber in lateral and vertical direc...

Resonant fiber scanner with optical feedback.

The addition of an apertured mirror before the imaging lens is proposed as a method of providing feedback in a single-axis resonant fiber scanner. Reflection at the scan extremities generates timing signals interlaced with back-scattered data, and a phase locked loop and a proportional controller then adjust the drive frequency and amplitude. The capture range and stability of the system are ex...

Carving fiber-top optomechanical transducers from an optical fiber

In a recent paper (Iannuzzi et al 2006 Monolithic fiber-top sensor for critical environments and standard applications Appl. Phys. Lett. 88 053501) we have presented the principle of the fiber-top position sensor, having a monolytical structure carved out of a single-mode optical fiber. The device alleviates sensing in a critical environment via interferometric readout, and because of its monol...

Terahertz waves emitted from an optical fiber.

We report a simple method of creating terahertz waves by applying the photo-Dember effect in a (100)-oriented InAs film coated onto the 45-degree wedged-end facet of an optical fiber. The terahertz waves are generated by infrared pulses guided through the optical fiber which is nearly in contact with a sample and then measured by a conventional photo-conductive antenna detector. Using this alig...

Dynamically tunable optical bottles from an optical fiber.

Optical fibers have long been used to impose spatial coherence to shape free-space optical beams. Recent work has shown that one can use higher order fiber modes to create more exotic beam profiles. We experimentally generate optical bottles from Talbot imaging in the coherent superposition of two fiber modes excited with long period gratings, and obtain a 28 μm × 6 μm bottle with controlled co...
